If there is a spice that Sri Lanka is particularly famous for, it’d undoubtedly be Cinnamon. 'Ceylon Cinnamon’ is world-renowned for its notable qualities such as unique flavour,colour and aroma in comparison with Cassia. It is not only an excellent elevator but also an acknowledged health blessing as it possesses medical properties to treat chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancer. It also contains some anti-inflammatory properties.
Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) is a tree native to Sri Lanka. Its dried flower buds are a popular spice and are also used in Sinhala and Ayurvedic medicine. You can easily incorporate ground cloves into many dishes. They'll bring a warm, distinctive flavor to desserts, curries, or chutneys.
Pepper is the dried berry of Piper nigrum. This vine which can grow up to ten feet tall is indigenous to Sri Lanka and Asia. Pepper is actually berries that are picked about nine months after flowering. Black Pepper has a sharp, pungent aroma and flavor. White Pepper is hotter, less subtle and mildly fermented. Green Peppercorn is milder in flavor and has a fresh taste.
Mace is a yellowish-brown spice that is derived from the dried lacy coating of the nutmeg seed. Available in ground form and as dried "blades," it is often paired with other aromatic spices. It is commonly found in spice blends and baked goods, as well as savory dishes like soups, sauces, and poultry and fish recipes.
Nutmeg is the seed of Myristica fragrans, an evergreen tree. the tree produces both Nutmeg and mace, and grows up to 60 feet tall. Nutmeg is a mild baking spice and is used in sausages, meats, soups, and preserves. Nutmeg is commonly added to eggnog, puddings, and fruit pies. Nutmeg is very popular in all over the Asian countries.
Cinnamon oil is prized for its lush fragrance. It’s also linked to several health and beauty benefits. Cinnamon oil is derived from the bark or leaves of several types of trees, including the Cinnamomum verum tree and the Cinnamomum cassia tree. Cinnamon oil is available as an essential oil and as a food-grade oil.
Ceylon cinnamon is warm,woody, and sweeter than other varieties. It has a complex,sophisticated favor, which is delicate, flowery and subtle. Baked delicacies and desserts often feature cinnamon powder or cinnamon essence. Asian curries, especially beef or chicken, gives the dish warmth and depth.Cinnamon and honey together are a multi-purpose remedy. Its medicinal properties are also far superior.
